We are a non-profit organization devoted to promoting fun and pleasure for families in various sailing activities. We have been active since 1972 and were incorporated in 1975.THINGS WE DO
Learn-To-Sail: We sponsor this course at a local community college. The members voluntarily instruct a non-credit course at Lehigh Carbon Community College over a 5-week period (5 Tuesday nights in the spring). The course deals with the fundamentals of sailing. What makes a sail boat go; how to tack and jibe; how to set sail, drop the anchor, make a proper entry to a crowded dock, tie and use knots; marine lifesaving techniques; small and large boat handling; selecting a boat; and trailer boat launching.
Trailer-boat Outings: Our Lake Fleet sponsors picnics during the summer months at local lakes. In the past we have had overnight excursions to resort and camping areas, and trips to the Chesapeake Bay.
Cruises: We have a Cruising Association that charters larger sailboats each year in the Chesapeake Bay area (approx. 30 to 40-foot size). Cruising Association members enjoy big boat sailing on the Bay at a fraction of the normal cost that an individual would incur.
Other cruises: Our Off Shore Fleet is a group of members who sail their own large boats, rendezvous several times a year, and cruise together to different ports on the Chesapeake and other waters.
Social Activities: During the summer we have monthly picnics. We have an annual Steak Fry locally, a crab feast on the Chesapeake, and in November we have our annual Banquet with white elephant gift exchange. Our annual meeting, at which we elect new officers, is held in December at a local restaurant and is mostly a social evening.
Newsletter: Each month we publish our newsletter the "Windward News" which is mailed to all members to keep everyone abreast of what is happening. It also includes stories about our recent events and what some of the long-range plans are. There also is a classified section for members interested in selling or buying marine items.
Monthly Meetings: We meet the third Wednesday of the month in the downstairs Banquet Room at the Brass Rail Restaurant on Lehigh St. in Allentown, Pa. (just south of I-78). Meetings begin promptly at 8:00 PM.
